Maoist chief Prachanda on Sunday warned India against attemptingto "micro-manage" Nepal's political system, saying it would bedetrimental to Indian

Kathmandu: Maoist chief Prachanda on Sunday warned India against attempting to "micro-manage" Nepal's political system, saying it would be detrimental to Indian interests.

"India should not engage in micro-management like who should be the minister and who should not," Prachanda said while speaking at a function to release a book entitled "Prayogshala" or Laboratory, authored by Sudhir Sharma, chief editor of Kantipur national daily.

The book mainly deals with political mystery surrounding the decade-long Maoist insurgency and deposed monarchy. In the book, the author also claims that India is having heavy influence in Nepalese politics.

He warned that meddling in Nepal's internal affairs would be detrimental to India itself. His comments come ahead of the November 19 Constituent Assembly polls.

The former prime minister also acknowledged that his party had reached diplomatic pacts with several global leaders during the conflict period in Nepal, including the then Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He revealed that "his party had written letters to then Prime Minister of India Vajpayee, China, European Union and the United Nations during the conflict period expressing the desire to come to the peace process."

Prachanda said that he had sent the letter to Vajpayee through Indian professor S D Muni.

"These agreements were in favour of Nepal and the Nepalese people," Prachanda claimed.

He said that his party has not deviated from its objective though the armed conflict has changed its nature.

"The change that took place in Nepal was the result of the efforts made by Nepali people," he said.

Earlier, another Maoist leader from a breakaway faction had blamed India for the failure of talks on reaching a consensus to defer the Constituent Assembly polls.

"Recently, the chances of forging agreement went in vain after the Indian foreign secretary (Sujata Singh) met leaders of the major four political parties," CPN-Maoist leader C P Gujrel had claimed.

12 Secrets of being Happy!

ACCEPT WHAT YOU HAVE Research shows that happy people have modest levels of expectation and aspirations — they want what they can get — while unhappy people never seem to get what they want. They also know how to avoid disappointments and how to generate pleasant surprises. This is because they strive for realistic goals and are happy with their lot. As Dr Jose de Jesus Garcia Vega, of the University of Monterrey, Mexico, confirms, we must accept things as they come. ‘We spend a lot of time complaining about the things that happen to us, but this is a waste of time and effort,’ he says. ‘To be happy, we need to enjoy what we have.’ ENJOY WHAT YOU DO
Happy people do what they enjoy and enjoy what they do — and don’t do it for the money or glory. There’s no point being stuck in a job you hate, surrounded by unfriendly colleagues just because the money is good — people forget that they are allowed to be happy at work, too. Many spend the best years of their lives trying to make money, sacrificing their health and family in the process, says Dr Garcia Vega. Later, they spend the same money they made working trying to recover their lost health and estranged family. LIVE FOR TODAY Don’t dwell on the past, on things that went wrong or previous failures. Similarly, don’t dream about an idealised future that doesn’t exist or worry about what hasn’t happened yet. Happy people live for the now; they have positive mind sets. If you can’t be happy today, what makes you think tomorrow will be different? CHOOSE HAPPINESS Don’t be afraid to step back and re-evaluate your goals. Imagine your life as a story that you can edit and revise as you go along. This kind of flexible approach requires positive thinking and an open mind — you need to actively choose to be happy. She found that ‘voluntarists’ (people who feel they have free choice and complete control over their life) were happier than fatalists (people who think little can be changed by personal intervention). ‘You always have the freedom to choose the manner in which you wish to approach any given situation,’ says Dr Garcia Vega. This theory is backed up by Ingrida Geciene of Vilnius University, Lithuania, who researched the happiness of people in 31 European countries. Luckily for us, Northern European countries contain more voluntarists while Latin European countries such as Spain and Italy have a higher percentage of fatalists. RELATIONSHIPS We get our happiness from other people, and from supporting other people. Remember that just as other people can make us happy, we are all ‘other people’ to someone else. And cherish people who are important to you. Research also shows that married people are happier than single people. STAY BUSY If you want to be happier, develop an outgoing, social personality — accept that drinks invitation, join the walking club, book group or choir. The best way to savour pleasure is in the company of others. Build a rich social life, says Eunkook M. Suh, a psychology professor at Yonsei University in Seoul, not as an obligation, but because it is rewarding, meaningful and fun. Active, busy, social people are the healthiest and happiest, in society. Get involved: make your motto ‘use it or lose it.’ Ambition is healthy and makes people happy, explains Claudia Senik, a professor at the University of Paris-Sorbonne, but envy makes them unhappy. Yet comparisons with others can spoil the benefits of ambition and are only useful if you learn something from them. Focus on your goals and dreams so you can enjoy your ambition and achievements.DON'T COMPARE BE YOURSELF Just as you shouldn’t compare yourself with others, it’s important not to worry about what others think about you — then you can truly be yourself. Happy people are spontaneous, natural and real; they say what they think and feel, and aren’t concerned what others think of them. Being oneself makes one feel free and authentic. STOP WORRYING Don’t take yourself too seriously. Happy people don’t worry and they recognise that 90 per cent of worries never come true. GET ORGANISED You might envy those laid-back bohemian types who just do things on the spur of the moment, but don’t be fooled. Happy people plan and organise, they have goals and a purpose. You can only get what you want or desire if you know what it is you want or desire in the first place. So while those chilled-out friends might seem happy, they’re actually just drifting along. THINK POSITIVE Bottling up emotions and bad feelings creates psychological distress and physical discomfort. Happy people get things off their chest, their motto is: get rid of it, or it will get rid of you. Similarly, work at developing optimistic thinking; happy people always look on the bright side. Successful athletes know to focus on winning, not losing, explains Miriam Akhtar, one of the first positive psychologists in the UK. We need to switch from a negative, glass-half-empty outlook to a glass-half-full and put optimism into practice to be happiest. Optimism is the mind’s natural self-defence mechanism against depression. VALUE HAPPINESS Happiness can be learned, but finding meaning and a purpose in life is what leads to it, not the other way around. The happiest people appreciate and realise that being happy adds years to their life, and life to their years. Glenn Nelson, 30, strangled mother-of-three Krishnamaya Mabo after ambushing her and dragging her into a field just a few hundred yards from the barracks where she lived with her husband, a serving soldier.
Reading Crown Court heard how Nelson, who lived in a caravan, had tried accosting two women earlier that evening before pouncing on Mrs Mabo.

Nelson received an eight year sentence in 2001 after being convicted of two offences of attempted rape, but also had convictions for indecent assault and inflicting actual bodily harm.
Appearing at Reading Crown Court via videolink, Nelson admitted murder and attempted rape and was jailed for life with a minimum tariff of 25-years before he can be considered for release.

Dashain Special – Nandita KC

‘I like the Dashain tika on my forehead and Jamara on my hair. I also like the blessings from my elders,” says Nandita. One thing Nandita doesn’t like about the festival is animal sacrifices in homes and temples in the name of the festival. Nandita clarifies her concern, “Even if the tradition is age old, killing something to celebrate is not good.”

Nandita has set aside Rs. 15,000 to spend in Dashain. Given the inflation, the amount is not a big sum. She says that she will spend all on it in clothes. While in Europe earlier this year, Nandita had bought enough clothes so, she is not shopping much.

Rekha Explains why she choose politics and why specially CPN Maoist Party

Although she has a very good acting career ahead, actress Rekha Thapa has taken a huge risk by entering the party politics. She had tried her best in making full use of the newly gained political power by trying to get appointed in  the Film Development Board and getting elected for the party. But, both her efforts had failed. Although she is not competing in election, she has promised to help the party, CPN Maoist to win the election.

After Rekha joined the party, Rekha’s fans are confused on why she has risked her career. Joining a party alienate all her fans affiliated to other parties. That is not something a celebrity can afford to risk on.

Why did you choose politics?

I could have served the society and country alone. But, there is a high chance that the sole voice might not be heard. In politics, your voice get some authenticity and it gets stronger. I had tried doing things alone but that didn’t help me much in helping the people and country much. A true political power can change every subjects. In political parties, we can collectively address any social problems. I needed that collective effort and I found that in politics.

Why CPN Maoist? Why not other parties ?

I had always been influenced by the principles of CPN Maoist. I had been revolutionist since  my child. My progressive thoughts and views seem to be closer to the party. During the 10-years-long Maoist war, I used to see the sketch of Prachanda and I used to study their principles. After a long analysis and deep study I have realized that my principles resonate with the party.

There are a lot of people who don’t like CPN Maoist as a party. In politics it is perfectly normal to have varying thoughts. It is same if I choose Nepali Congress, CPN UML or RPP party. They all have people of rival thoughts. The wounds of people’s war are still fresh. Although I don’t know much about the ancient politics, I have made an informed decision based on what I have seen and learnt for my life.

What is your political background ?

I am a sole warrior. I don’t want to undermine my political consciousness by pointing to the person around me. I believe, my identity should be my own. I can say my ancestors were the offspring of Bhimsen Thapa and that might be true, but I want to be identified by my own name. So, I am an individual fighter.

You can seek the political background of Prachanda or Baburam Bhattarai or Madhav Kumar Nepal or B P Koirala and find none. They were sole fighters and I want to be like them. I don’t want anybody else to be the benefactor of my political quest.

How can you keep a balance between politics, social work and acting?

All three sectors are related and fulfill each other’s purpose. Serving a society was a social worker and serving a country as a politician are the same. Although people say that politics is a game, I don’t think so. A good social worker can be a good politician. I wanted to serve the people, not rule them. Most of the leaders of our time have become rulers rather than serving people. That is the reason politics got the bad name.
